WFRP Update 17

The motley group soon comes upon the now familiar vision of Iltelka's small castle. A plan is quickly formed, where the dwarfs will lead the charge into the house using an improvised battering ram, with the others providing covering fire.

With a few choice spells from Magdelaine enhancing the group and Rudolpho coordinating and inspiring everyone, the assault begins. The dwarfs and Elpham easily smash open the door and gain the entrance to the house. Max and Rudolpho hurl their torches through the opening and into the darkness, although Max misjudges the distance and bounces his off of the door frame. As the torches and some oil land in the central room, Magdelaine summons forth her magic and causes the flames to explode, showering the room in sparks and flames. Following the plan, the dwarfs push deeper into the house, only to find it empty. From behind the dwarfs a door bursts open and a wolf, being ridden by the red dress wearing goblin, charges towards the dwarfs. He is quickly joined by other goblins and wolfs and the entire corridor becomes crammed with swinging blades. Elpham and the dwarfs start smashing any goblin that comes close while Rudolpho and Max start launching arrows into the crowd. The red clad goblin wheels towards Max and his wolf takes a large chunk out of Max. And once again, goblins appear on the upper floor and start shooting arrows towards the dwarfs. Elpham summons the strength of his ancestors and begins to smash goblins with a single blow. Many times he even manages to drop the goblin and the rider with a single swing. The other dwarfs are not as lucky and are quickly felled by the goblins foul spears. Outside, the red clad goblin and Max are involved in a complicated dance, trying to get into position around each other. Max decides to concentrate his efforts on the red clad goblin after an easy shot misses a wolf and almost impales Elpham. Magdelaine, showing amazing ingenuity, continues to throw her fire burst spell, managing to catch the red clad goblin and a few others within the burst. Rudolpho continues to launch arrows and inspire the heroes around him, until a wolf trips him and a goblin threatens to end his life. However, two quick shots from Max drop the goblin and the wolf to the ground. Elpham continues to smash goblins and wolves into bloody pulps and even smiles with glee as the goblins from the upper floor charge down the stairs towards him. Magdelaine's spells finally over come the red clad goblin's wolf, but he quickly mounts an unattended wolf. But this move puts him between Elpham and Rudolpho where a well placed blow from Elpham drops him to the ground. The last few goblins, seeing their leader fall, turn and rush back up the stairs, with Elpham close behind. Everyone rushes into the house, either chasing goblins or moving to help the dwarfs. Max spies some movement outside the house and suddenly realizes that the body of the red clad goblin is no longer there. He runs back outside and fires a warning shot at the goblin who is now crawling across the ground.

Elpham and Rudolpho begin chasing the goblins through the upper rooms. As Elpham breaks through the last door he finds a room with a large broken window and a pair of ropes dangling from them. Looking out, he sees a pair of goblins, astride a pair of wolves, running like the cowards they are.

As everyone begins to calm down, Max and Magdelaine see to everyone's wounds and are relieved to see that both dwarfs are badly injured, but still alive. Rudolpho strips, searches and ties up the red clad goblin. The goblin grovels and begs for it's life, especially when Elpham gets closer and threatens to pummel it. The heroes spread out and begin to search the house. They find that the goblins have befouled nearly every surface of the house and hidden most of the valuables, which Magdelaine finds with ease.

More surprising is the discovery of a female halfling, Hayfoot, hiding under a bed. She claims to be Iltelka's cook and has an interesting story to tell. It seems that Iltelka was here some time ago, but when a strange looking man arrived here and presented Iltelka with a scroll, they both packed up and left. The goblins were actually invited in and have been terrorizing the countryside ever since. After some questioning Magdelaine manages to deduce where Iltelka has traveled to. She seems to have followed the path of the chaos moon and has gone to an area near Kemperbad. The same area where there seems to be a convergence of evil forces, or at least an area of some significance to the wizard who was following the blood moon.

However, the heroes decide that that is something to ponder on another day. For now, they choose rest and begin to make themselves comfortable in their newly acquired home.
